Spring is here, bringing new hope and the chance for fresh beginnings. But right now, vital services for survivors of domestic violence are at risk. Funding changes could threaten the life-giving support SafeHouse Denver provides to survivors in Colorado and beyond.
You can make a difference by becoming a Sustainer of Hope today!
Your dependable monthly gifts will create a safety net for survivors, ensuring they always have a place to turn.
And right now, your impact can go even further. A generous donor will match your first monthly gift—dollar for dollar—up to $5,410. That means your first gift can help twice as many survivors find safety and support.
TJ shares her story to demonstrate the profound impact your support has.
For years, I tried to make my relationship work. I believed the excuses and gave him many chances, like everyone told me to. But no matter how much I gave, it was never enough. When I finally tried to leave, the abuse didn’t stop. It just changed. Judges, lawyers, and even therapists believed his lies and helped him stay in control.
TJ thought her divorce would set her free. But as the mother of an adult child with long-term care needs, she faced new obstacles from her abuser and from professionals who didn’t understand domestic violence. Abuse can persist through the legal system, financial control, and emotional manipulation.
You can be the one to ensure that survivors like TJ always have access to timely support. Providing a lifeline when others turn away.
Despite these challenges, TJ found hope after meeting a professional who was also a survivor. He recognized the signs of abuse and directed her to SafeHouse Denver, where he previously received help. TJ had met the people who understood what she was going through.
For the first time, someone listened to me. Someone believed my story. My advocate had the knowledge and experience to help me move forward when no one else could. She saved my life.
With the help of her SafeHouse Denver advocate, TJ received the legal help she needed. She found the strength to stand up for herself and the kindness she had been missing for so long. Her advocate’s kindness inspired TJ to become an advocate, too.
When every system failed me and professionals believed my abuser instead of me, SafeHouse Denver saw the truth. They connected me with the right people, resources, and support I needed to heal.
Many survivors experience additional harm as they blindly navigate through the courts. Your support ensures that survivors like TJ have access to critical legal advocacy and court accompaniment services.
Today, TJ is a monthly donor to Safe House Denver-- a Sustainer of Hope. She’s offering support to other survivors. She wants to use her story to lessen the harm caused when survivors make the difficult decision to leave their abuser.
Because of what I went through, I feel a deep responsibility to speak out. I want to push for policy changes that protect people with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers from abuse. By sharing my story, I hope to create a system that truly supports survivors—so they do not face more harm.
That’s why TJ became a Sustainer of Hope: a monthly donor whose ongoing support helps SafeHouse Denver raise awareness, educate survivors, and provide essential support to those who want to change their lives.
I give because I understand what it feels like to be alone and misunderstood. My monthly donation is my way of saying: You are seen. You are heard. You are not alone.
TJ’s story is not unique. Every day, many survivors reach out to SafeHouse Denver seeking safety, support, hope, and understanding.

Don’t wait—your first monthly gift will be matched dollar for dollar, helping SafeHouse Denver reach twice as many survivors this spring.
