In times of uncertainty

Spread hope

You can bring hope to survivors of domestic violence this season

By making a gift to SafeHouse Denver today, you turn hope into action—helping adults, children, and youth find safety, healing, and stability. Across the country, essential human services organizations are facing unprecedented funding cuts, leaving more people in need of food, housing, childcare, and healthy relationships. Your partnership allows SafeHouse Denver to respond to this growing need every day, even in the most uncertain times.

THANK YOU for making journeys like Susan's possible.

Susan was introduced to her abuser by family and friends. She trusted the connection because it was made through her community, and she felt an initial sense of safety. But not long into their relationship, he began abusing her emotionally and physically, diminishing her sense of power and worth. She felt isolated and afraid, and cut off from those who love her most—including herself.

“In my house, it felt like a prison,” she shares.

One day, Susan’s abuser beat her so badly she needed to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, but he refused to call one for more than two hours. When Susan bravely ended their relationship, he started stalking her. “That’s when I reached out to SafeHouse,” she says.

Through SafeHouse Denver’s individual counseling program, Susan was connected to her advocate, Bertha. “Bertha gave me encouragement,” she explains. “She was the person that made me realize that the truth will set you free. She made me work through my truth. That was where things started to bloom and blossom, because there was no judgment and she allowed me to be myself.”

Today, Susan enjoys health, happiness, and freedom in her home, where she frequently spends time creating and making art with her four granddaughters. “I have them making beautiful messes in my house,” she beams. “I want to be an example to them.”

Your support allowed Susan to experience the critical first step toward healing: HOPE.

Many of today’s most critical needs intersect with the life-giving services SafeHouse Denver has been providing to survivors of domestic violence for almost 50 years. Your donation ensures SafeHouse Denver has what it needs to meet the needs of our community and build a world free from domestic violence.

Here is how your support turns HOPE INTO ACTION—all at no cost to survivors:

  • Your gift of $1,000 provides 2 months of individual counseling for a survivor like Susan.
  • Your gift of $500 provides 5 nights of safe stay at our Emergency Shelter.
  • Your gift of $250 provides 2 weeks of groceries for an adult survivor at our Extended Stay Program.
  • Your gift of $100 feeds 10 survivors three warm meals today.
  • A donation of any amount will make a difference for survivors and will be deeply appreciated.
